What can you expect?

Our Nurse Practitioner will review your chart with you and confirm your skincare and beauty goals.
We will discuss the risks associated with the treatment, and any other concerns you may have.
Our Nurse Practitioner will help you determine whether Nail Fungus Treatment is the right treatment for you.

During The Treatment

We may prepare the treatment site and offer you a numbing agent (mild discomfort may be experienced, but the process isn’t painful).
The practitioner will use the laser to fire heat energy directed at the affected area at a set nanometer depth to target the fungus underneath the nail.
We will typically “stack” pulses on top of stubborn or more severe areas.

After The Treatment

Expect to experience mild symptoms such as slight tenderness, temporary redness, swelling, and in rare cases, slight bruising. This is temporary, and ice packs will help to relieve any swelling and discomfort.

Frequently Asked Questions About Nail Fungus Treatments

How Does Fungal Development Occur?

A fungus is an organism that thrives in warm and moist environments, making our bodies the perfect incubators. Toenail fungus typically starts as an infection in the skin known as tinea pedis. The fungus begins to grow under the tip nail fold, and as it continues to grow, the infection can cause changes in the appearance of the nail. Over time the toenail can become yellow or brown in color, and become thick or deformed in shape, becoming cosmetically unappealing in the process.

What Are The Risk Factors In Contracting Toenail Fungus?

Older adults have the highest risk of developing toenail fungus, as humans become more prone to this infection as the body ages and the immune system weakens, with men contracting fungus more often than women. Individuals with diabetes, psoriasis, hyperhidrosis, as well as those with immune system and blood circulatory disorders are at a greater risk of contracting fungus of the toenails. Working in damp areas, habitually receiving manicures and pedicures at the spa, and regularly using public swimming pools, showers, and gym makes you more susceptible to the development of fungus as well.

How Can LightTouch Treat Toenail Fungal Infections?

To successfully rid oneself of pesky toenail fungus, we at LightTouch offer professional laser toenail fungus removal. This treatment consists of our certified cosmetic nurses utilizing cutting-edge laser technology to eliminate the nail infection without harm to the skin surrounding the toenail. Our facilities perform this treatment using the Laser QSwitch 1064 system to eradicate the infection with as little as one application.

What Does Laser Toenail Fungus Treatment Entail?

When undergoing laser toenail fungus removal, we require that all nail polish and other nail accessories be removed before treatment. To treat fungal infections of the toenail, the QSwitch laser 1064 is placed on top of the infected toenail. The system uses an infrared laser beam to infiltrate the nail and target the infected cells, heating and eradicating the fungal infection from the toenail, while simultaneously fostering new nail growth.

This treatment will not cause injury or harm to the surrounding tissue and is virtually painless, so no anesthesia or numbing agents are required. The entire treatment takes as little time as 15 to 30 minutes! The number of treatments needed to remove the fungus entirely varies according to the level of infection, but typically one or two laser sessions should do the trick.

Is Laser Treatment Safe?

The QSwitch laser 1064 has full FDA approval, offering individuals a safe and effective way to remove fungus without harm to the patient.

What Results Can I Expect To See?

The results of this treatment will not be instantly discernable. It is only after the toenail has time to grow that you will notice a change. Typically three months are needed for the treated toenail(s) to grow out entirely, and by then, you will see a significant difference in the overall health and appearance of the nail(s). Read about the clinical results of the QSwitch laser 1064 here. Once the treatment is completed, patients are free to have pedicures and paint their nails immediately afterwards.

Does This Treatment Prevent Toenail Fungal Infections From Coming Back?

Our laser system can eradicate fungal infections with just one treatment. However, if the fungus is ever present in your surroundings, there is always a chance of contracting this infection again. To protect your toenails from contracting a fungal infection again, we recommend taking preventative steps to lower the risk of the fungus coming back. Always keep your feet as clean and dry as you can, trimming your nails regularly, and wearing clean, fresh socks every day. If you regularly use public swimming pools, showers, and gyms, make sure to wear waterproof sandals to protect your feet.
